I then dug a zig-zag tunnel through the walls so I could face Glaurung without giving him room to summon a bunch of dragons or let them breathe on me. Backed into a corridor but I was still taking too much damage so I teleported Glaurung and the two other nastiest dragons away and wiped out the others. I tried taking him out in a room but he summoned a bunch of Ancient Dragons all of which have breath weapons. Hope some of you folks feel like joining in and posting your adventures. Some Power Dragon Scale Mail would also be nice. I'm still looking for the Rings of Power and Ringil. Top level Uniques are in the range of 5,000 to 10,000 HP. I'm still looking for the final spellbook which should give me an attack which hits single targets for 250 damage per shot otherwise I'm looking for more Wands of Annihilation (which do 250 a shot to some monsters, including Angels won't work on Morgoth, though).Īs a comparison, my Dwarf Priest has about 970 HP. As a Priest, my primary AoE attack does about 160 to Evil creatures but only about 80 to non-Evil ones. I've been ducking Gabriel because he keeps showing up with an escort of tough angels. I've killed Azriel, Angel of Death, and Uriel, Angel of Fire. It isn't just Tolkien's monsters, btw, I haven't faced The Tarrasque or Vecna yet. Of course, later in the fight he summoned a bunch of additional Undead anyway. I ended up using a scroll of Mass Banishment to erase (not kill, i.e. The most recent Ringwraith was summoned by a Greater Rotting Quythulg along with a bunch of other Undead. The Witch King of Angmar was killed up on level 59 (his normal depth is 80). I've maxed my natural stats (haven't hit the max with equipment yet) and I've also hit the level cap of 50. This time I decided to play a Dwarf Priest. There are others including ZAngband which, as I understand it, is based on Zelazney's books.Īs for my adventures, in another thread I mentioned that my level 35 High Elf Ranger had just been insta-killed by an out-of-depth Ancient Multi-Hued Dragon on level 35 of the dungeon. "Vanilla" refers to the standard variant. The game has been around for well over a decade, it is free, and is regularly updated. You want more details, read "The Silmarillion" which gives the back story for "The Lord of the Rings". In Angband, the object is to go down 100 levels and kill Morgoth.įor those of you who don't recall who Morgoth is, Sauron had a boss. In Moria, the object was to go down 50 levels and kill the Balrog of Moria. Angband, as some of you might know, is an ANSI style graphics game in the tradition of Rogue, Larn, NetHack, and Omega. Since I'm not playing D3, I decided to spend some time playing Angband.
